FAQ’s

Why should I join the PTA?

Your voice matters! Even if you don’t have time to volunteer, you can have input on the PTA budget, contribute to the village that helps raise our kids, have first hand access to information and resources that might help your family or someone you know, keep you in the loop regarding fun PTA social events, and help raise funds that will support our kids and community in and outside of the classroom. On top of that, your PTA membership includes discounts to many national and local businesses. Knowing all of that, why wouldn’t you join??

What if I don’t have time to volunteer?

We got you. Membership meeting minutes are always available on the website. There are plenty of ways to contribute, even if you don’t have time for boots-on-the-ground volunteerism during this season of life.

What does volunteering look like?

Volunteering can be whatever you want it to be! If you have 1-2 hours a month or are available here and there for events. Whether you’d like to volunteer physically on location OR in the online space, we have bite sized opportunities for everyone who wants to help out.

Where do the membership dues go?

$8.00 of your dues are paid to the WA State PTA and $7.00 are paid into the Tumwater Hill Elementary PTA.

Do I have to attend membership meetings?

Attending meetings are not required but are encouraged! We try not to overwhelm our member OR volunteer base, but if you have opinions on the PTA budget, how things are run, or where we should focus our attention, the best thing you can do is show up in person or online to our meetings and let your voice be heard.

What do the membership meetings look like?

We usually start by reviewing the minutes of our last meeting, go over any items on the agenda that the Board has submitted, ask for input, then put matters to a vote. We try to take time to eat snacks and socialize, but the focus is very much on communicating to our members and receiving input on any current PTA events, decisions, and needs, as well as any upcoming changes.

Will I actually be welcome in this group?

We would LOVE to make space for you to sit at the table. We believe there’s room for all of us. And while most of our current Board are new to the job, we are unanimous in our desire to be inclusive, fun, focused, and eager to build community. Let us know how you’d like to help and we can go from there!
